Due Day

So, this is our "due day." We both know this isn't an exact day where we have a baby by midnight, but Jill being Jill, she started having contractions this morning at 3:19am. They've been with her pretty much all day, though they haven't been particularly regular or very long. We double checked with one of the OBGYNs and Jill's dialated about 3cm now and she's more than 50% effaced. So that's good news that we're moving along.

Up until today I had been frustrated with the idea that although we're ready for this to happen, we don't have any control of when the big day is. But today, I'm feeling much more relaxed. Seeing Jill with these painful contractions is hard, but she's been handling them wonderfully. I have no doubt she'll be a fantastic mother.

We're writing down the time and duration of each contraction and she's rating them on a scale of 1-10. As of 9pm tonight, we hit a 7.5. I hope we either move along soon or these subside for the night so Jill can get some rest.

We're both very excited and very happy to hear all of the wonderful support and to feel all the excitement our friends and family have for us. This birth really feels like a team effort, thank you!

More updates as they come in...

Staycation

Since we couldn’t travel very far this weekend we hung out in the city and had such a great time! On Saturday we went down to the Brooklyn Bridge Park and saw the Telectroscope - http://gothamist.com/2008/05/22/telectroscope_t.php
After that, we had ice cream from the Brooklyn Creamery and then hopped on the water taxi to the South Street Seaport where we shopped and had a nice dinner.

On Sunday, Morgan and I took a trip down to Coney Island and I finally got the corn dog I’ve been craving for the past week! It was such a great beach day. We walked the boardwalk and then got our feet wet in the ocean.

On Monday we went up to Prospect Park (along with everyone else in Brooklyn). We sat in the sun and read non-baby books for a while and then our friends Allison and Geoffe picked us up and took us to Bay Ridge for SPUMONI GARDENS (the best pizza in the world, for those of you who don’t know). It was a fantastic weekend and it really helped take our minds off the waiting game we’re playing right now.

Speaking of which, we had another doctor’s appointment yesterday. The baby appears to be making some progress! She’s moved down a little bit and I am now dilated about 1 to 2 centimeters. We’re trying not to get too anxious though because you can be dilated like that for quite a while, but it’s good to know our little girl is actually taking steps towards getting out of there! I’ve also been having more contractions here and there – but again, that’s all par for the course and it could go on this way for another week or two. We’ll let you know if anything major happens, but for now, we’re still just enjoying our morning walks and our nice, quiet apartment…

Love,
Jill
