Day Six!

Time is already flying! We took little Pearl to the pediatrician yesterday, and the Doctor was very impressed. Her head is nice and symmetrical, good heart rate and breathing, her size is great and her weight is right back up to where it was at birth, which is exactly where it should be. He also said she stretches out well, her color is great and overall she's in fantastic shape. She had her first Hepatitis shot, and she didn't fuss at all.

We then took her to a local store where they have a breast feeding circle on Wednesday mornings. The owner of the store is a lactation consultant and spent some good time with Jill and Pearl. We're still trying to get the hang of breastfeeding, mostly figuring out how often and for how long. She seems to feed pretty well and is generally happy. We wake up every time excited to see her cute face. You'll notice I didn't say "we wake up every morning..." because we're not on a regular routine at all!

The last couple of days Jill has been taking care of pearl in the morning, around 6am, and I'll stay up a little later in the evening with pearl to give Jill a rest. We're trying to get in the habit of napping whenever Pearl is asleep, but its taking some practice.

Pearl seems to love her stroller. She settles down right away and can fall asleep in a few minutes. The gentle bumps and jostling seem to put her at ease. The last couple of days have been so nice outside that we look forward to slow strolls through our neighborhood to show her off. Strangers in the street have stopped to comment on how beautiful she is, and yesterday a woman said she looked like she was one month old! Someone didn't believe Jill had given birth only 5 days earlier - she really recovering nicely and looking fantastic!

Well, Pearl is fast asleep in her little swing, and Jill is napping on the couch too. I'll try and get a few minutes of shut-eye so we're all three ready for our afternoon walk.

Thanks again for all the nice words, messages, support and advice!
-Morgan
